Dr. Richard S. Epter is a highly respected interventional pain specialist who has been serving patients in Augusta, Georgia since 2000. As the founder of Augusta Pain Center, he has dedicated his career to helping people find relief from chronic pain through advanced, evidence-based treatment and compassionate care.

With five Pain Board Certifications and Board Certification in Anesthesiology, Dr. Epter brings an exceptional level of expertise to the diagnosis and treatment of complex pain conditions. He is uniquely qualified in the region and is widely recognized for his depth of knowledge, precision, and leadership in interventional pain medicine.

In addition to treating patients, Dr. Epter is committed to advancing the field of pain management through education and mentorship. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine, where he helps train the next generation of pain specialists. He also teaches visiting physicians and fellows from across the United States and abroad.

Dr. Epter’s impact extends well beyond his own practice. He has lectured nationally and internationally, published multiple peer-reviewed articles in interventional pain management, and served in several influential leadership roles throughout his career. His service includes Past President and Past Chairman of the Board of the Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, participation on the National Guidelines Committee for the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and work as a Board Examiner for the World Institute of Pain.

In 2010, Dr. Epter expanded his vision for comprehensive pain care by establishing The Epicenter, a multidisciplinary facility designed to bring multiple treatment options together under one roof. This state-of-the-art center includes Augusta Pain Center, AP Surgery Center, Aquatic Therapy, and Physical Therapy, allowing patients to benefit from a more coordinated and complete approach to chronic pain treatment.
